Teaching has been Burton's passion for the past 13 years. She has taught a variety of criminology, criminal justice, and law courses at two major universities in Southern California. Most of her classes had enrollments of 150 to 400 students. To better serve her students she was one of the first faculty members who made extensive use of the internet and established message boards, frequent e-mail exchange, discussion forums, and online chats for my students.
Burton now lives in Missouri where she teaches a small web-enhanced course at a local college. She enjoys the smaller course and the lively discussions with her students.
Burton's main professional interests are forensic psychology, terrorism, and cultural diversity. During her doctorial program at UCI she interned at the Regional Police Academy of Los Angeles County where she co-wrote and co-taught their first revised cultural awareness courses.
After completing her master's programs in Germany, Burton coordinated political and criminological seminars at one of the leading conference centers of Germany and worked as an intelligence research specialist for the government. She was one of the first women to successfully manage the rigorous training program at the German Federal Law Enforcement Academy.

She worked at Devil's Lake State Park for two summers enforcing park rules and conservation laws, aiding hikers and campers, and at times helping out the Sauk County Sheriff's Department.
After graduation, Rice was employed by the State of Wisconsin Division of Corrections as a Probation and Parole Agent in Racine County. In 1984, Rink began his teaching career at Wheeling College (now Wheeling Jesuit University) in Wheeling, West Virginia. He was honored in 1991 and 1992 to be a visiting assistant professor at one of America's oldest colleges, Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland. From there he moved up to the university level and taught at Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Maryland, for one year. As much as he liked the history and culture of the Mid-Atlantic region, his roots are in the Midwest. So, when an opening appeared in the University of Wisconsin System at the Platteville campus in 1993, he jumped at it.
His chief research interest is the United States Constitution, from its origins to its modern interpretation, as well as current judicial decision-making on constitutional issues. Rink has delivered papers at political science meetings in Chicago and Washington, D.C., on issues related to those topics, and published some of his research in Japan as part of a series of research projects, which were co-authored with Professor Setsuo Takeda and funded by the Yatabe International Foundation. He wrote an article on the Constitutional Convention of 1787 for the Encyclopedia of the US Constitution, and also contributed an article on American philosopher John Rawls's theory of justice for the Encyclopedia of Ethics.
With Professor Takeda, whom Rink met when they were both graduate students at UW-Milwaukee, he has also written a number of articles and monographs on topics related to American government and the US-Japan alliance. They've recently completed one such work on US missile defense policy, and they're about to begin another one on the 2004 US elections.
