Professional Experience
While an undergraduate at UW-Platteville, Rice was hired to be the first woman Park Police Officer for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. She worked at Devil's Lake State Park for two summers enforcing park rules and conservation laws, aiding hikers and campers, and at times helping out the Sauk County Sheriff's Department.

After graduation, Rice was employed by the State of Wisconsin Division of Corrections as a Probation and Parole Agent in Racine County. In this capacity she supervised a caseload of adults and juveniles, provided family counseling, monitored alcohol and drug use in her clients, transported prisoners, wrote pre-sentence investigations, counseled clients, revoked clients, testified in court and spent more time in the Racine County Jail than she would like to admit.

After five years in Racine, Rice transferred to Milwaukee County and worked in the South Side Office for two years. She then decided she wanted to see the "real world," took a military leave, and joined the Army. After completion of Basic Training, Officer Candidate School, and Ordnance Officer Basic, she received orders for Germany where she served on a Maintenance Battalion Staff. She took command of the Battalion Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment as a 1st Lieutenant and administered the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). After eight years on Active Duty she transferred to the Army Reserves, then later to the Wisconsin Army National Guard. Rice retired in 2004 as a Lieutenant Colonel and has completed many Army leadership schools to include the Combined Arms and Services Staff School and making the Commandant's List at Command and General Staff College.

Rice is now an adjunct instructor at UW-Platteville, teaching Introduction to Criminal Justice.
