Message to Current and Prospective Students:
“As an alumnus of both on-campus and off-campus programs at UW-Platteville, I can attest that you’ll receive the very same first rate education that you would in an on-campus environment. The distance program at UW-Platteville was a fantastic experience. The professors are very accessible, and I was able to complete the assignments on my own time while working full time. The flexibility of the program allowed me to complete assignments where ever I happened to be; at home, the library, on the road, or even at lunch. You’re able to work with students around the world and from a wide variety of backgrounds. You’ll receive immediate feedback from your Professors and if you have any questions they are only an email or phone call away! At UW-Platteville, I gained more than just an education; I gained confidence, improved my communication and time management skills, and I am still in contact with many of my classmates and Professors. It truly is “a great day to be a Pioneer!”

Andy Greer

Background

Education:
Master of Science in Project Management
University of Wisconsin-Platteville ‘15

Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice
Greenville University

Personal Information:
Andy grew up in Southern California and now lives with his wife, Melissa, in St. Louis, MO. In June, they will be moving with his firm to a new office in Golden, Colorado.

Professional Experience:
Andy received his undergraduate degree in criminal justice from Greenville University. After working several years in law enforcement, Andy changed careers and transitioned into pharmaceutical sales and end-client services. This led to another change as he began a career in sales and customer support in the power systems protection and control technology industry. He has been employed with Schweitzer Engineering Labs (SEL - headquartered in Pullman, WA) for ten years, the last five in project management. SEL is a manufacturer of products and provider of engineering services in the area of the protection and control of electric power for utility, industrial and commercial clients around the world. In June, he will be moving with his firm for Colorado where in addition to project management responsibilities, Andy will work to strengthen the firm’s commitment to project management practices, establish a PMO and begin working toward taking on general management responsibilities for the branch. This is an exciting opportunity made possible in no small part by recently obtaining his Master's of Science in Project Management in December 2015, offered through the Distance Learning Center at UWP.

Andy is a big supporter of adult education and of the UWP DLC programs. He has promoted the PM program to a number of people within his organization as well as other project management professionals. Andy had a very good experience in the program, and understands the need to engage alumni in the ongoing support of the university and to represent their needs and interests to the association as a member of the alumni board. As a former member of the Student Advisory Board (2014-2015), Andy met with Dan Avenarius and the other student board members several times during the term to discuss issues impacting the DLC and the distance student body. This experience exposed Andy to some of the higher level issues, concerns and politics of the DLC and UWP and helped prepare him for service as an alumni board member.

Andy has also been invited to participate as an Ambassador in a new program being implemented by the Marketing & Recruitment department at the UWP DLC. This program will provide prospective students with a connection to an alum (or current student) who can help answer very specific experiential questions they have about the programs that marketers/recruiters are not able to answer fully. This is another dimension of Andy’s desire to promote the DLC and its mission.
