Mat LaVore: Astonishment Show

On Saturday, September 9 from 8-9:30 P.M. astonishment artist, Mat LaVore will take the stage in The Markee to shock audience members with his variety of hypnotism, magic, and mind reading! Watch LaVore hypnotize people to the point of forgetting their own names, swallowing needles, and predicting the future in his amazing showcase.  His show is a mixture of mystery and art that is guaranteed to leave the most skeptical audiences astonished. You will not want to miss this exhilarating experience, so join us for a night of astonishment.  You don't want to miss the event that everyone will be talking about the next day.

 

Stand Up Saturday: Sammy Obeid

LOL! HA HA HA! And get ready to bust a gut for Sammy Obeid! On Saturday, September 16 at 8 p.m. in The Markee come check out Sammy’s second performance here at UW-Platteville. As seen on Conan, Sammy Obeid, a Lebanese-Palestinian-Syrian-Italian-American, is best known for his 1,001-day streak of consecutive comedy performances. He is sure to make you laugh with his witty approach to life. So, if you are still trying to get adjusted to college life, or just need an excuse to get out of your room, come have a chuckle with us at our first Stand-Up Saturday of the semester!

 

Kalahari Water Park Trip

Splish Splash Pioneers! Are you ready for a roaring good time at the Kalahari Water Park? On September 22, 2017, from 10:30 P.M. to 1:30 A.M. dive into an adventure with us. For only $15 per ticket, you will get transportation there and back and 3 hours of uninterrupted water park fun!! Take on the treacherous waves at the wave pool, or slide on down the Master Blaster, either way, you are sure to have a Splashing Good Time!!  And did we mention that we will be teaming up with other UW schools?! UW- Lacrosse, UW-Stevens Point, and UW-Eau Claire will also be participating in this late night experience! Who knows, you might even leave with a new friend.

Pioneers, these prices are out of this WORLD! The very first Dollar Movie Night of the semester is Tuesday September 26. Catch the last EARTHLY showing at Millennium Cinema. Don’t SPACE out; stop by Heritage Hall in the Markee Pioneer Student Center to buy your ticket from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Friday (9/22), 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Monday (9/25), or 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Tuesday (9/26). Scope out buy-one-get-one passes around campus. These are UNIVERSAL good deals!

Vesperman Farm Trip

Who’s ready for crisp air and falling leaves? Join Campus Programming & Relations on Sunday, October 1 from 1 P.M. - 3 P.M. as we venture to Vesperman’s Farm in Lancaster for a fun-filled afternoon at a must see fall favorite! Challenge yourself to make it out of their 5-acre corn maze as fast as you can! Play with their adorable farm animals and enjoy a hayride out to the pumpkin patch to retrieve your pumpkin! And don’t forget to indulge in their signature apple cider doughnuts while watching their pumpkin catapult!
Tickets are just $5 and include admission as well as transportation to and from the farm! Reserve your ticket for this exciting trip any day between Monday, September 25 through Friday, September 29 from 11 A.M. - 2 P.M. in Heritage Hall. Or call CPR at 608.342.1497 to reserve your ticket.

This event features Andrew Sleighter, who has performed on Nuvo TV’s Stand Up & Deliver, Last Comic Standing, and made his late-night stand-up debut on Conan. He’s a regular at colleges and comedy clubs across the country and now he’s coming to UWP!

 

United We Stand

The Peterson Farm Brothers are known for their iconic music video parodies such as “I’m Farming and I Grow it”, “Chore” and their most recent “Residue”. Since their YouTube fame began in 2012, they have been speaking to people about life on the farm and the importance of agriculture. UW-Platteville has the honor of hosting The Peterson Farm Brothers as our Fall United We Stand speaker on October 8, at 8 P.M. in Velzy Commons.   Take a break from the homecoming festivities to learn more about agriculture and how it affects our everyday lives.

 

Dollar Movie Night

1 dollar, 4 quarters, 10 dimes, 20 nickels, or 100 pennies (which we don’t recommend), all can get you a ticket to Dollar Movie Night! This Dollar Movie Night will be on October 25. Look out for our BOGO pull tabs located on campus to make this the perfect scary movie date night. We will be selling tickets in Heritage Hall on Monday, Oct. 23 and Tuesday, Oct. 24 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. as well as Wednesday, Oct. 25 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. If you would like to reserve tickets for a large group, please e-mail David Nevins for accommodations at nevinsd@uwplatt.edu.

Family Weekend Noah Hoehn

Looping? Electric blue glasses? An awesome dude? What do all of these things have in common? The Singer/songwriter, live-looper and multi-instrumentalist, Noah Hoehn will be joining us on Family Weekend this year. Noah’s show featuring marimba, harmonica and Indian dhol drum, has been featured on PBS's “Minnesota Original”. He is truly an awesome performer that we are really excited to host on our campus on October 28, 2017 at 8pm in The Crossing. Bring your parents, grandparents, siblings, and friends to see this amazing act!

Food Fight Begins

Go global and help your community by donating in this year’s Food Fight! This week-long Homecoming event is held from October 8 at 5 P.M. to October 13 at 6 P.M. in the Pioneer Involvement Center. 1 point is awarded for every non-perishable food item donated. Help fight hunger by participating in an organization or donating towards another organization. Spirit points can be earned by decorating your organizations’ box.  Boxes for all organizations must be turned in on October 5 by 8 P.M.  Give back on a global and local scale and participate in this year’s Food Fight!

Check-in for your organization starts at 6:15 P.M., game time is 7 P.M.! Your team will compete to be the loudest and most spirited on campus! Get maximum points by coordinating your team’s apparel, cheers, and posters. Come with a good attitude, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm to get your organization the most points!  See you at the stadium!


Reverse Tug of War

Everyone has played tug of war before.  But have you ever played in the water? Whether you’ve never heard of Reverse Water Tug or you’re a pro at this homecoming event, it’s a guaranteed good time! Reverse Water Tug will take place on Wednesday, October 11 at 10 P.M. after the soccer game in the PAC pool.

Here’s a run-down of this event: Reverse Water Tug is a tournament-style event consisting of two canoes connected by a rope. Each team will have three rowers in a canoe facing away from the other team. Both teams will begin rowing at the sound of the whistle and will try to pull the other team’s canoe across the center line. The first team to pull the other team across the center line wins! But be careful, any teams that capsize during the competition will be disqualified!

Beginning at Ullsvik Hall, one person from each team will begin the race. At the 2 designated stops, runners will hand the torch to the next runner until they have reached the end destination, the world famous “M”. At this point we will light the M. So let me ash you a burning question, will we see you there?
