Instructor Biographies

 

Chemistry professor Charles Cornett finished his Ph.D. in Radionuclear and Analytical Chemistry at the University of Kentucky in 1995. Dr. Cornett’s analytical work began with his doctoral thesis on trace elements in Alzheimer’s disease brain tissue. He continues his research with trace elements and was recently awarded a federal grant through the Midwest Forensics Resource Center to assess new methods for determining post-mortem blood metal concentrations with collaborators at the Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory - Madison. Dr. Cornett’s undergraduate research group is also involved in federally-supported research focusing on improved methods of recovering ignitable liquids from arson debris. His primary teaching assignment here at UW-Platteville includes General Chemistry, Quantitative Analysis, Instrumental Analysis, and Forensic Chemistry. Dr. Cornett is a member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS) and the American Chemical Society (ACS).

Aric Dutelle is a full- time instructor at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. He is responsible for the creation and instruction of all courses relating to Forensic Investigation. Courses of instruction include: Introduction to Crime Scene Investigation, Criminal Investigation, Criminalistics, Fingerprint Comparison and Development, Investigative Photography, Crime Scene Processing Techniques, and Evidence Collection and Preservation. Mr. Dutelle instructs students and police personnel in crime scene processing techniques on a weekly basis. He is currently a member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS), International Association for Identification (IAI), Evidence Photographers International Council (EPIC), and the International Association for Property and Evidence Technicians (IAPE) He is also a forensic instructor for the International Criminal Investigation Training Assistance Program (ICITAP) through the U.S. State Department and USDOJ, and a Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standard’s Board certified instructor in: Hazardous Materials, Interview and Interrogation, Physical Evidence Collection, Report Writing, Scene Management, Testifying in Court, and Traffic Crash Investigation.

Professor John R. Rink was awarded a Ph.D. in Political Science and Public Law at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale in 1986. He’s taught American Government and law-related courses at UW-Platteville since 1993. In 1994, he started the UW-Platteville competitive mock trial program. In 2000, he added a mediation team to the program. His students and teams have won over one hundred team and individual awards in those years. His mediation team is the current National Champion in mediation advocacy. Professor Rink is a member of the American Mock Trial Association Board of Directors, and is Vice-President of the National Intercollegiate Mediation Tournament Board.
