General Information

Action Plan Courses

Action Plan courses are designed to help you apply what you have learned in your classroom. Action Plan courses offer you the support of an instructor and peers who are facing the same challenges. Need to develop a new unit? Want to try new techniques to control student behavior? Been assigned to develop a new curriculum? The Action Plan courses may be for you. Most credit classes may have an Action Plan component — contact Rick Morgan at morganr@uwplatt.edu.

Admission

Admission to a degree program at UW-Platteville is not required to take our credit outreach courses. The only requirement for taking credit courses at the graduate level is a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution. A transcript is not required. Completion of the registration form permits you to take Continuing Education credit outreach courses at UW-Platteville, but does not admit you to a degree program.

Cancellations

Courses with insufficient enrollments will be canceled one week before the first class meeting. Students who have completed the Office of Continuing Education Registration for courses that are canceled will be notified by phone. If online registration and credit card payment was utilized, you will receive a full refund on your credit card.

Once classes start, cancellations due to bad weather will be based on local school closings. If the school hosting your credit course is closed, your class will not be held that day. The instructor will schedule any makeup sessions.

Class Size

Some classes have enrollment limits to ensure individual attention. Please register early to ensure your place in these classes.

Confirmation

You will receive a confirmation of your Office of Continuing Education Registration by email, including date, room number (if applicable), and location of your class, and payment status.

Degree Programs (applicability of credit outreach courses)

The applicability of credit outreach courses to a degree program depends on instructional policies, requirements of specific programs and/or an advisor’s approval of the candidate’s total program. The credits you earn will become part of your permanent record at UW-Platteville. If you intend to use any course in an undergraduate or graduate program at any institution, please obtain advance approval from your advisor.

Non-Credit CEUs

All teacher recertification classes offered through UW-Platteville's Office of Continuing Education are available for non-academic Continuing Education Units (CEUs), as well as for undergraduate and graduate credit. This option may be of interest to teachers in Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin (PI 34 teachers only) working on their recertification requirements - who don't need the academic credit for an advanced academic degree or salary lane change.

CEUs are granted on the basis of contact hours - 0.1 CEU for each hour of contact in a class - as indicated below. They are provided through a Certificate of Completion issued by the Office of Continuing Education; they will not appear on your UW-Platteville academic credit transcript.

  • 15 contact hours (1 academic credit) = 1.5 CEUs
  • 30 contact hours (2 academic credits) = 3.0 CEUs
  • 45 contact hours (3 academic credits) = 4.5 CEUs

*Check with your state licensing agency and your school district to find out if non-academic CEUs will meet your individual recertification and salary advancement needs.

If you wish to register for non-academic CEUs for our teacher recertification classes, contact the Office of Continuing Education at 608-342-1314 or 1-888-281-9472.
