Childcare Administrators Credential

The Office of Continuing Education, UW-Platteville, is pleased to offer the Childcare Administrators Credential program for undergraduate credit. The Administrator's Credential is sponsored by The Registry and is part of their career ladder for childcare professionals. The 18 credits earned while achieving the certificate are granted by UW-Platteville. Generous financial aid, all tuition, books, travel stipend, and bonus pay, for all 18-credits is available from TEACH Wisconsin.

The six course, 18 credit sequence, leading to The Registry Administrator Credential is based on the competencies needed by child care center administrators as identified by The Registry. Courses are designed to train both experienced and new child care administrators for leadership in early childhood programs as well as preparing child care staff to assume increased responsibility.

Course Descriptions

Course 1: Administration/Supervision in Early Childhood Programs

An overview of roles and responsibilities of directors, coordinators, supervisors and other administrators in early childhood programs.

Course 2: Operations Management in Early Childhood Programs

Includes discussion and practical applications related to scheduling, staffing, facilities management, equipment acquisition and maintenance services delivery, record keeping and communication.

Course 3: Financial Management and Planning in Early Childhood Programs

A review of principles and practices in budget planning and preparation and fiscal management, including hands-on experience with program applications.

Course 4: Early Childhood Programs and the External Environment

Review of early care and education programs including determination of community child care needs, marketing, laws and regulations, working with government and community agencies, political and societal issues and trends.

/Course 5: Best Practices for Children and Families

Establishing and maintaining quality programs based on professional standards and the best available information on child growth and development.

Course 6: Administrator’s Seminar

Culminating experience in the credential course sequence. Individual projects are required with a focus on the integration of program aspects in developing strategic planning for change.
