Local Fare Fall Marketplace, Sunday Sept 27 (Platteville)
PLATTEVILLE- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Office of Continuing Education, with support from UW-Extension, will host a free Fall Harvest Marketplace event on Sunday, Sept. 27 from noon until 4 p.m. in Velzy Commons of Ullsvik Hall, located on the UWP campus. The Fall Harvest Marketplace will allow UWP campus and regional community members to experience a variety of local foods and products.
At the Fall Harvest Marketplace, local food vendors, food businesses and non-profit groups will provide samples of their foods, display their wares, sell their products directly to the consumer and provide information about themselves and their products. Space is still available for interested vendors.
“Everyone is welcome to enjoy the Fall Harvest Marketplace with its delicious and fun activities for kids of all ages,” said April Fuhr, coordinator of Local Fare. “It’s a great way for local producers and the public to make connections and learn about the many benefits of buying locally.”
The roadside culture stand, a project of the Wormfarm Institute, will be a new addition to Local Fare this year. The stand has been traveling around Southwest Wisconsin as a venue and is used by farmers and artists to sell their products. It will be an active part of the Fall Harvest Marketplace.
The Fall Harvest Marketplace will coincide with a special exhibition," Art meets Ag: A visual celebration of the bounty of the region,” to be held in the Harry and Laura Nohr Art Gallery, which is adjacent to Velzy Commons in Ullsvik Hall. The show is organized by the regional arts program ArtsBuild, Local Fare's sister organization in the UWP Office of Continuing Education. It will feature artwork that addresses the subject of regional farms, farmers and farm products. Some will utilize materials from regional farms. The gallery will be open during the Fall Harvest Marketplace as well as during regular gallery hours from Sept. 21 through Oct. 24.
The event is co-sponsored by the Grant County Board of Supervisors Tourism Resource Committee, Alliant Energy, The Shopping News and BEST.
