Wed. Aug. 19: Final “Stirring the Pot” Free Community Picnic
5:30 pm at the Monroe Arts Center (MAC) 1315 11th Street in Monroe
Come celebrate the fall harvest with the last of a three-part series of free community picnics on Wednesday, August 19 starting at 5:30 pm on the lawn of the Monroe Arts Center. Thanks to a grant from the Wisconsin Humanities Council, Green County UW Extension initiated “Stirring the Pot: Dialogue, Discussion and Dinner in the Dairyland,” an engaging and fun forum for area residents to gather and learn more about creating a healthy, green and sustainable local food system. The evening activities include cooking demonstrations by Chef Joe Wollinger of Blackhawk Technical College and Kurt Kline with the Monroe Farmers’ Market, music by local favorite Bill Rientz and The Love Bunglers and kids’ activities coordinated by Shakespeare on the Edge. Pack a picnic and join in this unique community gathering to celebrate our local flavors and rich agricultural heritage.
Additionally, the Aug. 19 picnic will showcase a unique collaborative project between Green County UW Extension and Renewing the Countryside (www.renewingthecountryside.org) entitled “Community of a Plate.” Three college interns will be documenting through photos and words a “plate” of local food from the Green County area, from the area farm source to the plate. Their work will be premiered at the picnic and at other area venues. Read about the Community of a Plate at: http://communityofaplate09.wordpress.com
