Ancient Egypt (MT)
Return to the past and discover Ancient Egypt! Learn
about the pyramids, mummies, pharaohs, various gods
and goddesses, and daily life. Unlock the mystery of
hieroglyphics and the Rosetta Stone, and even make your
own royal cartouche!
Rustic Folk Art (MT)
Enjoy a creative venture into rustic folk
art – using boards, twigs, branches and other natural
materials. One day will be spent creating your own "name
board" in a rustic style. Another project will be creating
your own "nature creature" – something real or a creature
from your imagination.
William Who?! Exploring the Art of
Shakespeare (MT)
William Who?! Only the most famous writer in the entire
world. Explore the endless art of Shakespeare – his life
and times, while stepping into Shakespeare's "shoes"
through scenes and characters. Art, games, sword
fighting, mask making and acting abound! Through William
Who?! you'll have the opportunity to know Shakespeare.
Xtreme Martial Arts (MT)
XMA is a combination of techniques, movements and a
mixture of martial art styles. It is structured for beginners.
It is the cool moves students are watching on television, the
Internet and in the movies. The goal is to take the skills the
students have and challenge them to do their best.
Clay Creations (MT or WTh)
What's more fun than working
with clay? Create unique clay
pieces using a variety of handbuilding
techniques. This
year's projects could include: picture
frames, mobiles, mugs, roses and/or cookie cutter bowls!
Pieces can be claimed at the Continuing Education Office
on or after Sept. 10. Be sure to wear play clothes – this
class is messy!
Constructed Languages (MT or WTh)
From Elvish in "The Lord of the Rings" to Klingon in "Star
Trek" to Esperanto in real life, constructed languages are in
use all around us. Go inside language to learn what it does,
how it works, and what forces shape it – then, design your
own. In this course, students will participate in the invention
of their own language to develop an understanding and
appreciation of constructed and living languages. This
includes an overview of such language oriented topics
as sounds (phonology), grammar (syntax) and meaning
(semantics).
I am Special: Hands-on Experiments in
Biology and Genetics (MT or WTh)
Find out why you are unique and special, practice Virtual
and in-Lab biotechnJLJgy, clone your favorite dog with
computer animations, compete in cloning games, make
homemade genes from banana or wheat germ, play with
microscopes and just have lJts of fun being a scientist.
Newswriting (MT or WTh)
Students will learn the basics of newswriting by writing their
own news stories from start to finish. The session will cover
story ideas, basic elements and style, interview techniques
and questions, content, the ethics of journalism, word
processing and more.
Painting with Acrylics
(MT or WTh)
Dodgeville artist Karen Fitzsimons
would like you to come and paint
with her. Class will start with
a few drawing and value skills.
We then will then move outside
and work on an acrylic painting
of a landscape (weather
permitting). In case of bad
weather, we will work inside on
a landscape from a photo.
Cross the Great Wall of China (WTh)
Students learn through a language lesson. Focus on
practical oral communication skills including greetings,
family members and names of foods. The program will
engage the learners to discover cross-culture differences
and some hands-on activities such as how to use
chopsticks, paper cuttings and more.
Fun with Scrapbooking (WTh)
What do you do with all of
your fun photos? Learn
how to preserve pictures
and have fun learning new
techniques while creating
your own brag book. Bring
lots of photos and leave with
a great way to show them off!
Jr. Geologist (WTh)
On day one, students are on a field trip
collecting 500 million-year-old
invertebrate fossils, rocks and
minerals. The next day each student
will identify and label their collection
before taking it home.
