Description: Wed, Dec 3, 2008; 7:00 - 9:15 pm. Join us as we discuss the philosophical nature of these two artistic styles and why they conflict with one another. This presentation looks at the origins of both and examines the finest examples of both styles in art, architecture, sculpture, music, literature and poetry. The time period covered is from the Renaissance through the end of the nineteenth-century. This session is fun because it not only touches on all of the art and music that people are vaguely familiar with growing up (Mona Lisa, Blue Boy, Impressionism, Big Ben, opera, etc.) but it also puts it into the context of modern pop culture (football vs. baseball, Looney tunes, Star Wars, Star Trek, Country & Western Music, the Who, Guns'n'Roses, etc.).
