Description: Fri & Sat, Oct 3 & 4, 2008; Fri, 4:30 - 9:30 pm; Sat, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. Designed for teachers, support staff, and all other educational professionals who have encountered difficult people in the educational work place. Using the conceptual framework developed by Florence and Marita Littauer, participants will learn about the strengths and weaknesses of the choleric, the phlegmatic the melancholy and the sanguine personality. Along with being able to identify the emotional needs of the four personalities, school personnel will demonstrate an understanding of each personality and identify ways to work with co-workers in their classroom. They will also display knowledge of how to apply this information to create learning environment that encourages positive interaction between their co-workers.

Description: Fri & Sat, Dec 5 & 6, 2008: Fri, 4:30 - 9;30 pm; Sat, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. A recent challenge for educators has been dealing with mentally ill students in the school and classroom. An ever increasing number of students are being diagnosed with bi-polar disorder. This course is designed for instructors and other school personnel at both the K-12 and college levels who work with these students. Participants will learn about the diagnostic characteristics of the various types of bi-polar disorder and the other types of co-morbid conditions that can accompany this disorder. Another complicating problem with this disorder is the related academic and behavioral problems that students with this disorder struggle with. Participants will learn strategies to prevent and/or reduce behavioral issues and power struggles when working with this population. The role of medications will be discussed as well as the current methods of treatment.
