Bio: Contrasts tends to be a common theme running through my artwork. Harmony and balance is everything in a work of art for me, regardless of the subject matter, but especially when contrasts work to add a bit of mystery or irony. For the most part I am self-taught, but I do have art and design credits from University of Iowa and Ohio State U. Fred Picker's Vermont Zone VI Workshop, in photography, and Nita Engles' "Painting the Light" class in watercolors, Dillman's Lodge near Lac du Flambeau, have influenced my work. As a landscape artist here in the Northwoods on the U.P. of Michigan, probably my background in ecology and respect for the universe, generally, helps make the work serious to me in my response. The images are generally quiet, contemplative. In addition to pastels, I work in photography, watercolors, metals, pen and ink.
