B. J. Reed began teaching at UW-Platteville in August 1999. With an additional 12 years of teaching, and 20 years as a public relations practitioner, Reed brings practical knowledge and experience to the classroom. She has an Ed.D. in educational leadership, with an emphasis in adult education, an Ed.S. in adult education, with an emphasis in training and development, an M.A. in mass communication, and a B.A. in magazine journalism. All of these degrees were earned at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Reed has also earned the APR (Accredited in Public Relations) certification from the Public Relations Society of America, as well as the CMP (Certified Meeting Professional) designation from the Convention Industry Council.
Reed is active in the meetings industry, with membership the Professional Convention Management Association. She has served as a consultant for that organization by editing their substantive text on meeting management, developing, with a colleague from Indiana University/Purdue University – Indianapolis, the PCMA instructor’s resource center. Reed is currently working on a research project, identifying curriculum for the meeting’s industry at universities around the world. She encourages students to attend national or regional conferences connected to these organizations, expanding student networking and professional development opportunities.
With two grown daughters and a Portugese Water Dog, Reed’s personal life is full. Her relaxation options include training her dog, remodeling her house, crocheting, reading, and writing.
