B. J. Reed began teaching at UW-Platteville in August 1999. With an additional 12 years of teaching, and 20 years as a public relations practitioner, Reed brings practical knowledge and experience to the classroom. She has an Ed.D. in educational leadership, with an emphasis in adult education; and Ed.S. in adult education, with an emphasis in training and development, an M.A. in mass communications, and a B.A. in magazine journalism. All of these degrees were earned at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Reed has also earned the APR (Accredited in Public Relations) certification from the Public Relations Society of America, as well as the CMP (Certified Meeting Professional) designation from the Convention Industry Council.

Reed maintains membership in two national societies: the Public Relations Society of America and the Professional Convention Management Association. She encourages students to attend national or regional conferences connected to these organizations to expand their networking and professional development opportunities.

With two grown daughters and two standard poodles, Reed’s personal life is full. Her relaxation options include gardening, remodeling her house, crocheting, reading, and writing.
