Students
Your course may have several quizzes and exams throughout the semester, so you will need to arrange for a person to proctor these quizzes and/or exams. Whenever possible, you are highly encouraged to use the pre-approved proctors. See a current listing of pre-approved proctors and their locations. If using a pre-approved proctor is not a possibility (e.g.travel, scheduling conflicts), please see the "Students Who Need to Obtain an Alternate Proctor" section below.
Students Who Choose to Use a Pre-approved Proctor:
- Current listing of pre-approved proctors and their locations
- Select a proctor based on your location
- Contact the proctor within a week of receiving an email from the Statewide Program Manager to verify scheduling
- If scheduling of exams will work for both the proctor and the student:
- Exchange contact information
- Provide the proctor with the following information:
- Instructor's name and email address
- Course name and number
- Email the name of the proctor to the Statewide Program Manager
- If scheduling of exams will not work for both the proctor and the student, follow the instructions for "Students Who Need to Obtain an Alternate Proctor" below.
Proctors are chosen from one of the following approved, professional employment categories at UW Colleges or UW-Platteville: faculty, student services, continuing education, instructional technology, program managers, or library staff. UW-Platteville reimburses proctors at the end of each academic semester.
Students Who Need to Obtain an Alternate Proctor:

- Individuals who may proctor:
- Professional employee at UW Colleges or UW-Platteville
- An individual from a professional organization or a company
- Individuals who may not proctor:
- Relatives or close personal friends of the student
- Direct supervisors or a co-worker of the student
- A person who has taken the class in the previous 5 years or is planning to take the class in the future
- Ensure scheduling of exams will work for both the proctor and the student
- Submit a "Proctor Approval Form" to the Statewide Program Manager
Requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the Collaborative Engineering Program Coordinator. The final decision to accept or reject a proctor is made by the Collaborative Engineering Program Coordinator.
Proctors
- Administer the examinations in accordance with the written directions provided by the in-structor of the streaming video course
- Be physically present during the testing time to supervise the student(s)
- Return the completed examinations to the instructor in accordance with the instructor's directions
- Submit the Proctor Timesheet(s) to the Statewide Program Manager within one week of administering the final exam(s) at the end of each semester
In the event of a student showing up late for an examination, it is up to the discretion of the proctor to decide to accommodate the student's tardiness. (For example, if one hour was allocated for an exam, and the student showed up fifteen minutes late, the proctor could choose to still allow the one hour time frame or only allow forty-five minutes.)
Proctors will be paid by UW-Platteville $25.00 per hour for the allocated quiz or examination time determined by the instructor. Payment will be calculated in increments of 15 minutes. Please see the chart below. The proctor will be paid at the end of the semester after the final exam is administered and the Proctor Timesheet(s) is submitted to the Statewide Program Manager. Please note: If the allocated time for a quiz or an exam is less than sixty minutes, the proctor will be paid for one hour.
