What is Collaborative Engineering?

UW-Platteville, in partnership with UW Colleges (the freshman / sophomore campuses of the University of Wisconsin), provides place-bound students and working adults the opportunity to pursue an ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering from UW-Platteville. View our downloadable brochure for more information.

How does it work?

Typically, students complete the beginning coursework - general education and pre-engineering courses - in a classroom at one of the UW Colleges campuses or through UW Colleges Online. While working towards an associate of arts or science degree, students begin taking the UW-Platteville engineering courses in one of two ways: by distance technology or in a face-to-face classroom.

The UW-Platteville Collaborative Engineering courses are recorded during live classes and then made available within minutes of the conclusion of the class session via UW-Platteville’s online courses management system.  Collaborative Engineering students watch the recorded lectures via high-speed Internet at their convenience but must adhere to the course syllabus (i.e. homework assignments, exam dates).  For courses with lab components, one of the lab managers travels to the various UW Colleges campuses to facilitate the labs.

UW-Platteville Collaborative Engineering faculty and lecturers teach face-to-face engineering courses in the late afternoon  and early evening on Mondays through Thursdays on the following UW Colleges campuses:

  • UW-Fox Valley
  • UW-Rock County
  • UW-Sheboygan
  • UW-Washington County

Who are the students?

  • Technicians wishing to pursue a bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Engineering professionals desiring to refresh particular skills or gain new ones
  • Individuals looking for a career change
  • High school graduates choosing to remain in their communities while earning an engineering degree
  • UW-Platteville students wanting to complete an additional course or two while working at a co‑op
