Both the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and UW Colleges are accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and are members of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Additionally, UW-Platteville’s engineering programs are accredited by ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology).

Over a decade ago, industry leaders in Northeast Wisconsin approached the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Science at UW-Platteville and asked, “Is there a way that our employees could earn an engineering degree from you without relocating to Platteville?”

After much effort, in 2002, a partnership was established between UW-Platteville and UW-Fox Valley, a two-year campus located in Menasha, Wis. This venture, called the Collaborative Engineering Program, was developed to allow the place-bound workforce of the northeastern region of the state to take the pre-engineering and general education courses through UW Colleges and the professional engineering courses necessary to earn a bachelor’s degree from UW-Platteville without leaving their own communities.

Several years later, in 2006, in order to meet the same needs faced by the industry leaders in the south-central part of the state, the Collaborative Engineering Program expanded to UW-Rock County located in Janesville, Wis.

Shortly afterwards, the question was raised, “How can the rest of the workforce throughout the state be reached without placing UW-Platteville engineering faculty on each of the thirteen two-year campuses?” In 2008, the Collaborative Engineering Program extended its impact across the state by utilizing streaming video technology to send lectures to students at any time, any place. To facilitate the lab-rich UW-Platteville engineering courses, lab managers travel to the campuses.

In 2013, the "face-to-face" option expanded again to UW-Washington County, and the name underwent a small change: UW-Platteville Collaborative Engineering.
