Drawing in solution with a standard white-tipped bulb
Make sure there is enough solution in your beaker to completely
fill the pipet. (Never pipet a reagent directly from a reagent
bottle.)
Place the tip of the pipet below the solution's surface in
the beaker. Squeeze the rubber bulb and place the silicone attachment
over the mouth of the pipet. Do not force the bulb onto the mouth
of the pipet, but apply constant, gentle pressure to maintain
a seal.
Gradually release the pressure on the bulb and allow the liquid
to be drawn up higher than the desired volume. DO NOT ALLOW LIQUID
TO ENTER THE BULB. With the tip of the pipet still below the solution's
surface, quickly remove the bulb and place your finger or thumb
over the mouth of the pipet to prevent the solution from draining
back into the beaker. If the level of the solution is not high
enough, squeeze the bulb again, quickly remove your finger and
place the bulb over the mouth of the pipet to draw up more liquid.
Touch the tip of the pipet to the inside of the beaker to remove the drop
hanging from the tip. If this drop is not removed, the volume
transferred will be slightly higher than the volume desired.
