Keeping dirt off the weighing vessel

Be sure that the weighing vessel is clean and dry. Contaminants adhering to the vessel will cause its mass to be abnormally high, since the display will show the mass of the vessel and sample, plus the mass of the contaminant, rather than just the mass of interest.
