The Blow Molding Division is pleased to announce two programs for students a Student Design Contest with a $1,000 prize and an $8,000 Scholarship offered through The SPE Foundation.

Student Design Contest - 1,000 Prize Offered

The Society of Engineers announces the Third Annual Student Design Contest sponsored by the SPE Blow Molding Division.

The Division is offering a $1,000 prize to a student or group of Students who submit the winning entry. The winner(s) can present their proposal at either an upcoming SPE topical conference or at ANTEC 2005 in Boston next MAY. A $500 travel allowance will be provided.

$8,000 Scholarship Offered by the Blow Molding Division

The SPE Foundation Scholarship program now includes the Blow Molding Division scholarship. The value of the scholarship is $8,000. Funds will be distributed over a two-year period. The award will be presented during SPE's ANTEC, which is scheduled for May 1-5, 2005 in Boston. Qualifications for the scholarship are as follows:

  1. The student must be enrolled full time in a degreed undergraduate plastics engineering program.
  2. The student must be completing the 2nd year of a four-year program
  3. The student must have at least a 2.5 overall grade-point average (4.0 scale)
  4. The student must be a member of an SPE Student Chapter.

Applicants should complete The SPE Foundation application form, check the Blow Molding Scholarship box, and enclose all the required items listed in the "Application Procedure" section. Please note that Blow Molding Division applicants must also include a brief essay on the importance of blow molding to the technical parts and packaging industries. The deadline for scholarship applications is January 15, 2005. Recipients will be selected and announced by mid-March.

Charitable Scholarship Foundation

One-year scholarships are available from the IAPD Charitable Scholarship Foundation to undergraduate students majoring in industrial distribution or sciences.

High school seniors entering college in the fall of 2005 as well as full-time undergraduate level students currently enrolled at an accredited institution are eligible for awards.

Strongest consideration will be given to students:

In 2004, $21,750 was awarded to 17 worthy students!

Extrusion Division/Lew Erwin Memorial Scholarship
Number Available: 1
Amount: $2500
One award is made each year to support undergraduate or graduate research in the field of polymer extrusion. Applicants must be working on a Senior or MS project which the scholarship will help support. The project must be described in writing, including background, objective, and proposed experiments. The recipient will be expected to furnish a final research summary report.
Fleming/Blaszcak Scholarship
Amount: $2000
Sponsored by Cal Mold Inc. and Formula Plastics, this scholarship is available to full-time undergraduate students at a 4-year college or students enrolled in a graduate program. Applicants for this award must be of Mexican descent and citizens or legal residents of the United States.
Thermoforming Division Memorial Scholarships - Ed Segen Memorial Scholarship

Plastics Institute of America, Inc

Amount: $1500
Awarded annually to post secondary, vocational and undergraduate technology and engineering plastics student. Applicants should be pursuing studies leading to careers in the plastics industries.
International Association of Plastics Distributors (IAPD)
