Blow Molding Division

The Blow Molding Division is pleased to announce two programs for students a Student Design Contest with a $1,000 prize and an $8,000 Scholarship offered through The SPE Foundation.

Student Design Contest - 1,000 Prize Offered

The Society of Engineers announces the Third Annual Student Design Contest sponsored by the SPE Blow Molding Division.

The Division is offering a $1,000 prize to a student or group of Students who submit the winning entry. The winner(s) can present their proposal at either an upcoming SPE topical conference or at ANTEC 2005 in Boston next MAY. A $500 travel allowance will be provided.

$8,000 Scholarship Offered by the Blow Molding Division

The SPE Foundation Scholarship program now includes the Blow Molding Division scholarship. The value of the scholarship is $8,000. Funds will be distributed over a two-year period. The award will be presented during SPE's ANTEC, which is scheduled for May 1-5, 2005 in Boston. Qualifications for the scholarship are as follows:

The student must be enrolled full time in a degreed undergraduate plastics engineering program.
The student must be completing the 2nd year of a four-year program
The student must have at least a 2.5 overall grade-point average (4.0 scale)
The student must be a member of an SPE Student Chapter.

Applicants should complete The SPE Foundation application form, check the Blow Molding Scholarship box, and enclose all the required items listed in the "Application Procedure" section. Please note that Blow Molding Division applicants must also include a brief essay on the importance of blow molding to the technical parts and packaging industries. The deadline for scholarship applications is January 15, 2005. Recipients will be selected and announced by mid-March.

Charitable Scholarship Foundation

One-year scholarships are available from the IAPD Charitable Scholarship Foundation to undergraduate students majoring in industrial distribution or sciences.

High school seniors entering college in the fall of 2005 as well as full-time undergraduate level students currently enrolled at an accredited institution are eligible for awards.

Strongest consideration will be given to students:

Maintaining high academic achievement
In need of financial assistance
Active in school and community service

In 2004, $21,750 was awarded to 17 worthy students!

Hans F. Seuthe Scholarship: Number Available: 2; Amount: $500; Scholarships given in the name of Mr. Hans Seuthe for his dedication and contribution to Rexam Sussex Plastics, Corp. Sussex, Wisconsin.

UW-Platteville Foundation scholarship: Number Available: Consult Financial Aid; Amount: $300+; Scholarships given in the name of various faculty and staff is available through the UW-Platteville Foundation.

The SPE-Milwaukee Section.

SPE/Ticona Scholarship: Number Available: 2; Amount: $500; These scholarships have been established with the effort of Mr. Michael Thomas of Ticona Corp. These scholarships are available to any student in a Plastic Program within the region of SPE-Milwaukee Section. Cynthia Caudle, and Jason Sieg are the latest awardees.

SPE Foundation Scholarships

General Scholarships: Number Available: 10-12; Amount: up to $5000; Scholarships are awarded for one year only, but may be re-awarded for up to three additional years.

Robert G. Dailey/Detroit Section Scholarship: Number Available: 1; Amount: $4000; Must be an undergraduate

Robert E. Cramer/Product Design & Development Division/Mid-Michigan Section Scholarship: Number Available: 1; Amount: $1000; Must be an undergraduate

Ted Neward Scholarship: Number Available: 1; Amount: $3000

Polymer Modifiers & Additives Division Scholarships: Number Available: 2; Amount: $4000; Must be an undergraduate

American Plastics Council (APC)/Plastics Environmental Division Scholarship: Number Available: 1; Amount: $5000; One award will be made annually in the name of the corporation cited as the Recycler of the Year by the Plastics Environmental Division of SPE at their Annual Recycling Conference.

Special Scholarships

The following scholarships must be applied for separately.

Extrusion Division/Lew Erwin Memorial Scholarship: Number Available: 1; Amount: $2500; One award is made each year to support undergraduate or graduate research in the field of polymer extrusion. Applicants must be working on a Senior or MS project which the scholarship will help support. The project must be described in writing, including background, objective, and proposed experiments. The recipient will be expected to furnish a final research summary report.

Fleming/Blaszcak Scholarship: Amount: $2000; Sponsored by Cal Mold Inc. and Formula Plastics, this scholarship is available to full-time undergraduate students at a 4-year college or students enrolled in a graduate program. Applicants for this award must be of Mexican descent and citizens or legal residents of the United States.

Thermoforming Division Memorial Scholarships - Ed Segen Memorial Scholarship: Number Available: 2; Amount: $5000; Awarded annually to graduate or undergraduate students who are pursuing a career in the plastics industry. Applicants must have experience in the thermoforming industry, such as courses taken, research conducted or jobs held. Read Mortel is the latest UW-P awardee

Thermoforming Division Memorial Scholarships - Johan Griep Memorial Scholarship: Number Available: 1; Amount: $5000; Awarded annually to graduate or undergraduate students who are pursuing a career in the plastics industry. Applicants must have experience in the thermoforming industry, such as courses taken, research conducted or jobs held. Apirat Nongnang is the latest UW-P awardee

Thermoforming Division Memorial Scholarships - Johan Griep Memorial Scholarship: Number Available: 1; Amount: $2000; Must be an undergraduate. Applicants must have experience in the thermoset industry, such as courses taken, research conducted or jobs held.

Plastics Institute of America, Inc: Number Available: up to 16; Amount: $1500; Awarded annually to post secondary, vocational and undergraduate technology and engineering plastics student. Applicants should be pursuing studies leading to careers in the plastics industries.

International Association of Plastics Distributors (IAPD): An annual tuition repayment scholarship is available for high school senior entering college or a full-time undergraduate student currently enrolled at an accredited institute.
