a place to learn, a place to grow
October 1996
Dear Parent/Guardian:
Conferences are one of the traditional ways that teachers and school staff communicate with families concerning the academic, social, emotional, and physical growth of their children. Conferences are a key strategy to help maintain communication and cooperation, provide a proactive opportunity to become acquainted before problems arise, and gain goodwill and support of parents and families.
This year the seventh graders will lead the conferences and use a "student-led conference" format. Advisors will help them prepare for their conference. During the conference students will:
Eighth grade students will have a traditional conference with the teacher as in past years. After we refine and evaluate participant responses, we hope to expand student-led conferences in the eighth grade.

a place to learn, a place to grow
Dear Parent/Guardian:
Thank you for participating in the Student-Led Conferences. This was our first venture with this conference style and we discovered our students were most anxious about sharing their progress with you.
We would like to fine tune this assessment format so students will feel more comfortable and competent when conducting their conferences. Your suggestions are most welcome.
An important part of this process is the feedback you give your child. We are requesting that you write a letter to your student in response to the conference. Consider commenting on your child's poise, information shared at the conference, demonstrated areas of growth, the pride you feel in your child's accomplishments, etc. Students will bring the letter to school to read privately and/or share with their advisory group.
If you have any questions, please call. (674-7048) We look forward to the students receiving your letters. Again, thank you for participating in the student-led conferencing process.
Sincerely,
AdvisorPrincipal
