SECTION FOUR - IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGIES

Each of the team has attended different exploratories and will share parts of them at differing times during the early part of the school year. Our initial inservice days have been designated to other topics regarding a computer technology upgrade completed over the summer. We have weekly building staff meetings in which we take a portion for staff development topics. This time will be available weekly for the different team members to present the materials and concepts they found to be valuable.

Specific intervention procedures for a classroom disruption will be determined after meeting with the remainder of the building staff during the first few weeks of school year 96-97. Our suggestion for them will be to include some of the ideas learned at the transescent workshop. Each of us on the transescent team will be in an advisory role.

The following is the management plan for the junior high students with possible application to the senior high school students at Cassville Jr.-Sr. High School for the fall of the 96-97 school year:

Classroom Disruption Response
First time Teacher says "stop" in a non-
threatening way, one on one
Second time Teacher moves the student to a rear
part of the room and remind the student
of expected appropriate behavior
Third time Teacher gives the student a timeout
in the publications room for writing
a reflection/action plan to be submitted
to and accepted by the teacher the next
day. If the plan is not acceptable to the
teacher, or is not given to the teacher
within a twenty-four hour period, a
parent, teacher, student, and principal
conference will be arranged by the
teacher. The student will remain in
study hall during the period(s) of the
incident until the conference is held to
a satisfactory conclusion.

During the time the student is out of
class on a time out, the student
is responsible for classwork that has
taken place. Any assignment,quiz or
test that is given can be made up at the
teacher's convenience but with a penalty
of a10% of the points scored or one
letter grade lower.

The positive side of this discipline system model is also going to be discussed with the building staff in the early weeks of this school year. We, as a team, have discussed this topic and have the following suggestions:

Those seventh and eighth grade students who have a calendar month of perfect attendance and a "time out" free month will be placed on the principal's honor roll. There will be a written invitation sent to each student on that list explaining the time and place of the activity they, as a group, have chosen to do.

This office approved monthly activity could include a field trip, video, hike, popcorn, pizza, ice cream, movie, catered lunch, free time in the gym, swimming, breakfast, or some others of their choice.
