REASONS TO STUDY BUSINESS OR ACCOUNTING AT UW-PLATTEVILLE

  1. You will never feel like just a number. Dedicated faculty will provide personal attention to make sure you understand what you are studying.
  2. You will study subjects you are most interested in from the start. Planning on an accounting major? We will introduce you to basic accounting principles in the first year and build on them throughout your college career. Thinking about a business administration major? You will take Global Business to learn about various business specialties and study issues involved in operating businesses worldwide. Then you can make an informed decision about the specialized area of study, such as finance or management, that=s right for you.
  3. You will have great odds of getting a job in your field. Over 90% of our department's graduates obtain positions in their field within 6 months of graduation. In addition, over the past 25 years, nearly all of our accounting graduates who have taken the rigorous CPA exam have passed it.
  4. You will have unlimited access to computer labs at no extra charge. Every building on campus has a computer lab, and residence halls also have easy access to the Internet.
  5. You will earn one of the most flexible degrees around if you choose our business administration major. You will be well grounded in the basics - accounting, economics, computer science, and core business courses. Selecting a 15-credit concentration such as sales and marketing communication, food marketing, management, human resource management, or finance, or an 18-credit emphasis in computer science, will give you a competitive edge when seeking employment. You may want to check out our new applied management emphasis with an international studies minor!
  6. You will have a chance to participate in award-winning student organizations. Our four student organizations are Beta Alpha, for accounting students, the Society for the Advancement of Management, the Pioneer Investment Club, and the Society for Human Resource Management. All provide ample opportunity for students to talk to recent graduates, network with those in their field, learn more about their respective professions, and relax with peers and faculty in social settings.
  7. You will have the opportunity to take an internship. An internship is essential in today=s job market. UW-Platteville students take internships in their late junior or senior year after they have gained some expertise in their field.
  8. You will interact with faculty whose ongoing dialogue with practitioners ensures that they stay current. Faculty interact regularly with nontraditional students, many of whom are practitioners in areas in which faculty teach, through the Department of Business and Accounting=s successful distance education program. This ongoing dialogue provides a relatively unique way for faculty to remain current in their respective fields.
  9. You will learn theory and put it into practice. Our highly qualified, experienced faculty blend specialized academic expertise with practical experience and bring both to the classroom. Opportunities abound for experiential learning with nearly all professors integrating case studies, experiential exercises, and realistic projects into their courses. If you want "hands-on" learning, you will get it with a Business or Accounting major from UW-Platteville.
  10. You will have faculty who want to help you prepare for your future. Business and Accounting faculty are concerned not only about enrolling you but also about working with you throughout your college experience to help you prepare for a successful career.
