Version 5 - A.K.A. Final Round!!!

The image below is the latest version working collaboratively between Publications and Web Development. There are many little graphic adjustments which overall add a very positive feel to the page. Please review and post your comments.

Please note that we didn't adjust the Pioneer Profiles yet. Those will be re-done a bit later.

Version 3

The following is the latest update using the suggestions we have received through the blog comments, email and with 20+ people in-office visits. We have incorporated as many of the suggestions that we were able to achieve. Details of the design are below the image.

The following are highlights of the changes since version 2:
  • changed some of the colors, shapes (and sizes) and position of the elements to condense the length of the page
  • reduced the size of the map and moved it above the random image to give it more visibility
  • rearranged the Pioneer Athletics section to move it next to the news as was overwhelmingly suggested
  • condensed the "Discover Your Major" and built a test working model at: http://www.uwplatt.edu/web/majorsearch.html (note: we need help associating keywords with academic programs to fine tune the search)

Version 2

The following is our latest design modification for the new UW-Platteville website. Important changes are as follows:
  • Reworked current logo to make it more fresh
  • Added Google Search (customized for UW-Platteville!)
  • Made the snapshot area one large photo that rotates on every load
  • Added a map area to describe where Platteville, WI is and incorporated the virtual tour and weather information in the same location (3 birds 1 stone!)
  • Campus Events area is the same but will contain a scroll bar to limit length of page
  • Moved Campus Resources A-Z and made it more prominent in the lower left hand navigation
  • Campus Highlights will be re-used as they are currently
  • Latest News area now has more room so it doesn't feel as cluttered
  • NEW FEATURE: Discover Your Major! This will search keywords the user enters and displays corresponding academic programs of potential interest. The result page will be just below the current search and the rest of the page will be pushed down further on the page. The results will display links to the corresponding: Fact Sheets, Departmental website, and the Academic Catalog section... all without leaving the main page!
  • Pioneer Profiles are being redone to give a fresh look
  • Moved the Pioneer Athletics to a more prominent location and linked it to the UWP_Pioneers Twitter account for current athletics updates

Shapes to the New Design

The web office is currently mocking up many different designs, using different shapes and colors to get different feels. Here are some of the designs that we have come up with so far. Please remember that we are not focusing on using actual logos, school colors, and images. The images that we have used are just to fill in the space of where an (general) image would go. We would appreciate feedback on which designs you prefer over the others.

What Do You Want To See?

With the University going through a redesign, I ask you... "What do you want to see?" The Web office on campus has been able to look through the feedback section located on the main page to see what students and faulty, as well as guests like and dislike about the look of the page, but the big question now is what do you want to see there this next time around? Is there something that as a student or faulty you would like to changed or added to the main page, or as a future student or parent of a future student is there something the design team could take in consideration when designing the new look? How do we want this page to look, what feeling do we want to give off? As one of the designers on the project, I would like to see something new and fresh, that is well organized and simple, with a possible organic look to it. Rounded corners in boxes that are used like we have currently. There are so many different direction we could take the main page in, now we just have to collect ideas and thoughts.
