Blugolds turn tables on UWP

UW-Eau Claire turned the tables on UW-Platteville Wednesday, scoring a pin in the final match to beat the visiting Pioneers 22-18.

Last year, the Pioneers' Ryan Rozek won via pinfall to give UWP a 24-22 win. On Wednesday, Justin McAuley caught Rozek 4:35 into the 285-pound match for the Blugold win.

UW-Eau Claire remained undefeated in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference at 3-0 while improving to 8-2 overall. The Pioneers fell to 5-4 overall, including 1-3 vs. WIAC schools.

UWP's Ryan Higgins won his 20th match against just one loss, beating Dave Vanevenhoven 12-4 at 149 pounds, while Zach Chambers improved to 18-3 with a rare 15-0 technical fall over Andrew Johnston at 141. Freshman Jesse Milks won a 6-3 decision over Pat Senzig, improving to 17-6 on the year. Spencer Peterson earned a forfeit at 125 pounds.

The Pioneers will be back in action Saturday vs. Lawrence at 2 p.m. in Williams Fieldhouse.
