UW-Platteville won five straight individual matches and handed Loras a 31-9 defeat Friday night in the Graber Sports Center in Dubuque.

The Pioneers won for the seventh time in their last eight outings, improving to 8-4 overall.

Allen Fish (majority decision) and Ross George (pin) staked Coach Chris Walter's team off to a 10-0 lead, winning at 125 and 133, respectively. After the Duhawks won the 141- and 149-pound matches, UWP ripped off the five straight victories. Jesse Milks, ranked second in NCAA Division III at 157, began with an 8-0 win, and Vinny Alber followed with a pin at 165. Cory Zuberbier (174), and Brad Zellner (197) each earned majority decisions, while Matt Scott won 10-8 at 184.

Alber, Fish and Zuberbier each recorded their 26th wins of the season, while Zellner won his 24th.

A group of Pioneers returned to Dubuque Saturday for the Duhawk Open, where Shawn Flom placed second at 165. He went 2-1 on the day before losing to UW redshirt wrestler Eric Vanevenhoven in the championship. (The results from Loras erroneously credit Flom with the title win.) Sean Yaros claimed third place at 197.
