UW-Stevens Point, ranked 13th in NCAA Division III, defeated UW-Platteville 22-13 Thursday night in Williams Fieldhouse.

The Pointers, who won six of the 10 matches, improved to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while the Pioneers slipped to 3-4, 1-2.

The Pioneers won three straight convincing matches to take a 10-7 lead. Freshman Vinny Alber stopped Kris Magruder 7-4 at 141; junior Ryan Higgins beat Kyle Mueller 11-5 at 149; and sophomore Jesse Milks defeated Fred Lane 18-6 at 157. UWSP won the next four matches, along the Pioneers pushed the Pointers' nationally-ranked wrestlers. Jake Wozniak, ranked fourth, beat Cory Zuberbier 5-0 at 165, while third-ranked Craig Bollig edged Michael Jackowski 4-2 at 197.

UWP's freshman Cody Weber finished the night with an 8-5 win over Mitch Szwet at 285.

The Pioneers return to action Saturday in the loaded Dick Walker Invitational, hosted by Wartburg.
