A short-handed UW-Platteville wrestling team fell to third-ranked UW-La Crosse 42-9 Thursday in UW-L's Mitchell Hall.

Because of injuries, the Pioneers forfeited the 125- and 197-pound weight classes, giving the Eagles 12 points.

The Pioneers won two matches, including a pin by Vinny Alber at 141. The freshman, ranked 10th in the country, pinned UW-L's Kevin Barber in 2:58.

Sophomore Jesse Milks earned his 10th victory of the season, using a third-period escape and then a two-point takedown to beat Jay Milz 4-3 at 157.

The Eagles won three matches by pin and three by major decisions. Four of the victors are ranked in the top seven nationally in their weight classes, including top-ranked Tim Palmer (165) and Josh Chelf (174).

UW-Platteville fell to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matches, while the Eagles improved to 5-0, 1-0.

The Pioneers are back in action Saturday at the Milwaukee School of Engineering Invitational and then play host to UW-Stevens Point Thursday at 7 p.m.
