Weekender Profile: Maggie Medlicott

UW-Platteville's Maggie Medlicott is a senior softball pitcher from Neenah. She and her Pioneer teammates head to South Carolina for a week of games, beginning March 15.

What are looking for out of your spring trip?

"Just warmth! Hopefully we'll do better than we did last year."

What kind of season do you foresee?

"Hopefully be in the top half of the conference. We need to be a better seed in the tournament (than last year's ninth seed)."

You pitched in a lot of innings, 150, last season. What do you do to keep in shape to be able to pitch that many?

"I threw a lot over break. Last year I don't think I was as ready, but this year over Christmas break I threw every day. I only took one day off. So that really helped. I feel like I'm a couple of months ahead of where I was last year."

How does it feel to be in your senior season? Do you approach it differently?

"I can't believe it's (almost) over. I want to do everything as well as I can."

You have a lot of new players on this year's team. What advice would you give them about college or softball?

"Work hard, but don't be afraid to ask questions. And don't regret anything."

Your transfered from Concordia University. What brought you to UW-Platteville?

"I originally looked at Platteville after high school, touring it two to three times. Concordia was closer, so I thought I'd go there. I was there two years but blew out my knee in back-to-back years. I needed a change. I'm a criminal justice major, and there is a good program here. I came here one more time for a tour and made up my mind to come."

What would you like to do with your criminal justice major?

"I'm also getting my social worker's license, so I'd like to do something like drug abuse counseling in a juvenile facility."
