Amy Renick was a senior back row specialist for the UW-Platteville volleyball team from Egan, MN. She was one of three seniors on a Pioneer team that went 26-11 overall with a third-place finish in the WIAC.
Did you enjoy this past season?
"Yes, it was a lot of fun. Senior year, you are always going to try to make it the best you can. It was a lot of fun because we got to play in Minnesota, which is where I am from, so a lot of my family was able to watch. The girls, even though young and a lot younger then me, they were a lot of fun to get to know. There were so many new people to get to know, unlike one or two normally.
Now that your four years of volleyball are up and you look back, what are your best memories?
"Most of my memories come from last season. Our team was extremely close and going into conference tournament with those girls was so much fun. It was so much fun winning the tournament and heading into the NCAA playoffs (in 2005), especially being the underdogs."
What was it like to win over the number six ranked team in the country, UW-Oshkosh, in the first round of the playoffs?
"It was so much fun. We lost to them during the season and we shouldn't have. It was tons of fun to be in that fifth game and watch the Oshkosh coach when he realized that we were probably going to clinch that game."
You had such a young team, what was the turning point for your team; when did you know you had a chance?
"All along I saw the potential the girls had and it was just getting them to see that even though they were young, we could still take on teams that were older than us. Our turning point was when we went to Illinois Wesleyan and got to play (top-ranked) Juniata and those caliber teams, so from there on it seems that we progressively got better and then in the WIAC tournament we all of a sudden clicked."
What major are you and what are your possible job opportunities?
"Chemistry with DNA and ACS and right now I'm looking at going into graduate school for either general chemistry or chemical engineering, and just started looking at going into secondary education, but I haven't decided yet."
