UW-Platteville's Rachel Chapman is a junior volleyball player from Portage High School. Last week she became just the eighth player in Pioneer history to surpass 1,000 career kills.
What originally brought you to UW-Platteville?
"I definitely wanted to play volleyball and stay in the state. I have four siblings who all went to state colleges, so I wanted to go to a state school, too. I really liked the coaching staff here. I was thinking of going into elementary education, but that didn't work out, so I changed my major to business administration."
What did you think of breaking 1,000 career kills?
"It's awesome. The other night at Whitewater, they announced two seniors who hit 1,000. I'm a junior, so that's pretty cool. I didn't even know about it until my mom said something. She keeps track of all of that."
The Pioneers are 20-7. How do you think the season is going?
"We're a young team. Everyone has the talent but like any team, we have a lot of growing to do."
What has been your highlight so far as a Pioneer?
"Winning the conference tournament (in 2005) was amazing."
What goals do you have for this year and next?
"We're going to nationals. I know we can do it. We have a lot of heart and determination; once we get the fundamentals down we'll be unstoppable."
