Corey Darmody, a graduate of Kewaskum High School, is a junior center for UW-Platteville. He earn WIAC honorable mention all-conference in 2005 and was the Pioneers' Offensive MVP. Corey and the rest of the Pioneers play their conference opener against UW-Stout on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
How did it feel to be named all conference as a sophomore last year?
"I thought it was pretty good feeling. We didn't really play well as a team but I did receive some recognition."
The team has its conference opener this Saturday against UW- Stout with that game being televised on Fox Sports Net (tape-delayed to Oct. 4 at 6:30 p.m.) How important is this game and do you think the TV publicity will be good for the Pioneers?
"I think the TV publicity will be good for us but the game is just like another game. We can't really take the TV into account and say it's a bigger game just because it’s going to televised."
UW-Stout has a tendency to blitz a lot. As the center, what do you look for as you make your line blocking calls?
"We have to watch a lot of film and be prepared for whatever their blitzes are going to bring because they can do a lot of different things, they can us a lot of different looks. As long as we are prepared I think we can pick everything up."
The team seems to be spending a lot more time together this year, do think that will help the Pioneers with the rest of the season? Don't you guys have movie nights on Fridays and things like that?
"Spending more time together will hopefully bring us together as a team. Maybe having us do more things together has an effect on us but we definitely have a better attitude this year, I think."
The offensive line doesn't get recognized that often. What is it like being part of that O-line group?
"I like it. I think the O-line is a special group of people. Not may people can be offensive linemen. The guys that are just proud to be offensive linemen."
Do you have any personal goals for the rest of the season?
"Personal goals… not really. I have for the team and as far as the offensive line goes. We want to give up less sack than last year and we want to get a lot more yards rushing and I think team wise we want a lot more wins. We are looking for trying to win conference more than anything. Individual awards will come after the season if we reach those goals. We are going to go for the conference wins and hopefully win conference."
