Shannon Jacoby is a junior stopper for the UW-Platteville women’s soccer team. She hails from Hartford, Wis. and is majoring in biology. Last season, Jacoby started in 18 out of 20 games. The Pioneer’s home opener is Thursday, Sept. 13 against Dubuque at 6 p.m. at the Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
What is practice like this season with a new coach?
“It is different than last year. Coach Enzo (Fuschino) has us do a lot of purposeful drills, and I think the team is heading in the right direction.”
This year’s team is younger, and being an upperclassman, what are your words of wisdom to help out your younger teammates?
“I try to tell them to always be aggressive, give 110% and don’t ever let down. They aren’t used to playing at a collegiate level but I try to tell them to keep going and don’t let people push them around.”
What are your goals and your team goals as you start the soccer season?
“We would like to have a winning season and to prove to the conference that we aren’t a bully team anymore; we have some finesse. My personal goals are to play aggressive and try and start as much as I can.”
You are starting your third season of soccer, what are the biggest changes from your first year to now?
“My first year, our team had the reputation of an aggressive team and we had a solid defense. Last year, we had an amazing team because we were strong in both our offense and our defense. This year, we had more finesse and our girls are smaller. It is a little more work right now because we have a lot of new girls but we are looking good.”
