Lynn Schreiner

Weekender Profile: Lynn Schreiner

UW-Platteville's Lynn Schreiner is a member of the Pioneer volleyball team who is in the middle of spring practice. The sophomore from Athens will also take part in the Pioneers' trip to Europe in May,

How is spring practice going and what do you hope to accomplish?

"I think it's going pretty well. Spring is a time to fine-tune our skills and get us back into the volleyball mode. It's a time to break things down and learn about the little things that we can't do in the fall. It's nice to get back into the flow and mesh as a team."

This spring will be important for another reason, as the Pioneers are traveling overseas to play some matches in Europe. How exciting is that for you?

"I'm very excited, not only to go play other teams but just to travel overseas. It's a huge deal. It may be the only time I get to go."

What do you hope to gain out of the trip?

"Pretty much to learn another culture and get to see all the sights. For volleyball, to see how they play and if they do anything different than we do here. I just want to get the all-around educational experience out of it."

Speaking of education, what is your major and what would you eventually like to do?

"I'm a criminal justice major, and I want to either become a social worker or a parole officer working with juveniles."

Is that what brought you to UW-Platteville?

"Yes, the criminal justice program here is very good. I had come here for a couple of (volleyball) camps, and I really liked the campus, too."

What's been your volleyball highlight?

""The NCAA tournament we went to (in 2005) was really exciting. It was definitely a different experience that a regular season game."

How good do you think the Pioneers will be in the fall?

""I think we'll be all right. We lost three seniors, and yes they were huge parts of our team, but we also have a bunch of freshmen back from last year. Everyone works hard, and I think we will definitely contend in the conference."

What do you see your role on the team? Do you see yourself as a leader since you will be one of the older players?

""I'm hoping to be a leader, but even if I don't, I'm always going to be there for my teammates every step of the way. I want to be the person who is there to support every teammate, every day."
