Scott Dybevik is a senior outfielder on the UW-Platteville baseball team. He is from Madison La Follette High School majoring in business financing. Last season he played in 30 games, starting in 26 of them. He will be in left field Saturday when the Pioneers begin the 2007 season in Fulton, Mo., playing games against Rockford College and host Westminster.
You are the only senior this year which means you have the top leadership role. What is that like?
"It's different. I've been playing ball with (injured senior catcher) Mike Flood since I was 10. Its been a good ride, but for him to go down like that is kind of hard to see. The season is here, though, and we are going to take it one game at a time."
Last year you played all 38 games on the road, how will the new Kendall Murray Field help the team this year?
"It's awesome that we get to play on the new field. I think it will help from a fan-based standpoint. It's kind of hard for other students to come watch you play when you aren't home. To get a good fan base and for the parents to come down and not have to get a hotel every time will be nice."
There are a lot of new faces this year. Where do you see the Pioneers this season?
"I think we'll be near the top. We have great chemistry from senior to freshmen. It's a competitive league so we'll see."
How does it feel to start the season off early with games on Saturday?
"It's nice to get games underway. Practicing indoors is not baseball, so splitting the schedule up and playing games every week instead of getting seven games in the week before conference starts will be nice."
