The University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team split its final two matches of the Trinity University Fall Classic in San Antonio, Texas on Saturday. The Pioneers dropped a 24-26, 26-24, 25-23, 25-23 decision to Southwestern University and closed out the day with a 24-26, 25-16, 25-17, 29-27 win over Austin College.
UW-Platteville (1-3) outhit Southwestern by a .291 to .249 margin in the loss. Samantha Rampart had a match-high 18 kills to lead the attack for the Pioneers. Briana Kaiser and LeeAnn Mizgalski had 15 and 11 kills, respectively in the loss. Ali Sikic had her second double double of the young season with 48 assists and 13 digs. Brooke Nichols led the Pioneers with 17 digs and Andrea Larsen added 15.
Southwestern University had five players with double-digit kills including Allison Stubbs, who had a double double with a team-high 16 kills and 19 digs in the win. Setter Christina Nicholls had 52 assists in the win.
In the nightcap, the Pioneers closed out its trip to San Antonio with a win over Austin College. Four players had double-digit kills to lead UW-Platteville, including Stephanie Kirchner, who had her first double double of the season with 12 kills and 19 digs.
Also with 12 kills was Rampart, plus Mizgalski and Briana Kaiser, who had 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Sikic added 43 assists and three service aces in the win. The Pioneers outhit Austin College by a .265 to .160 in the win.
Next up for the Pioneers will be the UWP Invitational, where they will host Loras and Milkin on Friday, Sept. 9 at 4 and 8 p.m. and Monmouth and Central on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
