Ali Sikic battles the Pointers

UW-Stevens Point edged UW-Platteville 25-17, 15-25, 23-25, 14-25, 15-12 in a two-hour Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener Wednesday in Williams Fieldhouse.

The visiting Pointers improved to 4-7 overall, while the Pioneers fell to 3-5.

UWP out-hit the Pointers .198 to .161 and had 62 kills to UWSP's 44, but the Pointers hit well in the games they won. Stevens Point had a .419 attack percentage in set one, .314 in set three and .120 in set five.

Four Pioneers reached double figures in kills, with Briana Kaiser and Melanie Bailiff each recording 15, and Samantha Rampart and Melissa Hillebrand with 13 apiece. Sophomore Ali Sikic had 55 assists, one shy of her career high.

Christina Brinkman led the Pointers with 13 kills and tied teammate Michaela Rhieneck with a match-high five blocks.
