Posted October 16, 2009

Friday was technically a furlough day on the closed UW-Platteville campus, so the Pioneer volleyball team made quick work of UW-River Falls, winning 25-20, 25-12, 25-22 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match in Williams Fieldhouse.

The Pioneer broke the deadlock for third place with the Falcons, moving to 4-2 in the WIAC. UWP is now 16-7 overall, and UWRF fell to 11-13, 3-3.

The Pioneers hit a season-high .330 while holding the Falcons to .094. Sophomore Briana Kaiser had 14 kills and four blocks, while junior Melissa Hillebrand made 11 kills, including a milestone point. With her first kill Friday, Hillebrand became just the 10th player in Pioneer history with 1,000 career kills.

Ali Sikic made 37 assists wiith 10 digs, while Abby Carey had 15 digs, and Leslie White added 10.

No Falcon was in double figures in kills, as Kelsey Scheele and Erin Green tied for team honors with seven.

UW-Platteville plays host to UW-Stout Saturday in noon in the final home match of the year. Seniors Lisa Bell and Stephanie Tronnes will be honored prior to the match, which is also Alumni Day.
