| Lisa Bell hits against the Green Knights |
Posted September 25, 2009
UW-Platteville senior Lisa Bell set a new school record with nine solo blocks in the Pioneers' 25-20, 25-21, 25-23 victory over St. Norbert Friday afternoon in the UW-Platteville Invitational.
What's more impressive is that Bell accomplished the feat playing in just two sets. She broke the existing record of eight set by Tracy James in 1990 and equalled by Heather Hackl in 1997.
Melissa Hillebrand and Briana Kaiser each had nine kills, and Amanda Fisch seven to pace the Pioneers' offensively, while Melanie Bailiff added five blocks to Bell's nine.
Simpson beat the Pioneers in the second match of the night, 25-17, 25-23, 25-20. UW-Oshkosh, the nation's top-ranked team, and Simpson are the only 2-0 team in the six-team tournament, while UWP and Loras are 1-1. The Pioneers and Duhawks play Saturday at 10 a.m., and the Pioneers close the tournament by facing UW-Stout at 2 p.m.
