The UW-Platteville Women’s Volleyball Team is sponsoring its second annual “Dig for the Cure” event as the Pioneers attempt to raise awareness and money for breast cancer on Oct. 14, 2009 against UW-LaCrosse at 7 p.m. in the Williams Fieldhouse at UW-Platteville.
The Pioneers will be participating in the event, along with the rest of the women’s volleyball teams in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) throughout the month of October, in order to promote Breast Cancer Awareness.
The team will be wearing pink shirts with the WIAC “Dig for the Cure” logo in order to support the fight against breast cancer and spectators are encouraged to wear pink to show their support as well. The Pioneers will be looking for donations, as well as pledges, for its team’s digs. The Pioneers are averaging 17.05 digs per set for the season. Last year the team raised $1,700 at the event. All of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation in Madison.
To make a pledge, print off a pledge form on the UWP Volleyball website or pick one up at the door. Pledges can be made for each dig during the set or in a flat dollar amount donation.
Come on out to the match against UW-LaCrosse to help the UWP Women’s Volleyball Team support and raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness. All fans who make a pledge are admitted free to this WIAC match.
