The UW-Platteville volleyball team has added five recruits for the 2009 season. They are Melanie Bailiff, Amanda Fisch, Brooke Nichols, Samantha Rampart, and Shelby Roggensack.

Melanie Bailiff, West Bend East High School, 5-10 Outside Hitter

Bailiff is a two-year captain and three-year letter winner for West Bend East High School. Earned sportswoman of the year, 2nd team all-conference and 2nd team all-area as a senior. Helped lead team to two conference championships and two state appearances. As a sophomore, Bailiff earned the most improved player award. The daughter of Barry and Kathryn Bailiff, she plans to major in business administration.

Amanda Fisch, Glenbard South High School, 5-10 Outside Hitter

Fisch was a two-time all-conference honorable mention right-side hitter. She led Glenbard South to its first regional championship in 10 years as a senior. The daughter of John and Kim Fisch, she has written her own newspaper columns and plans to major in communications.

Brooke Nichols, Lodi High School, 5-5 Defensive Specialist

Nichols was starting libero for three straight years, ending her high school career receiving the outstanding passer award, digging 186 perfect digs and most consistent server award, serving 52 aces. She is ranked third in the history of Lodi High School with the highest number of perfect digs. Nichols received first team all conference honors as a junior and senior. She was team captain for two years, leading her senior year team to a conference 9-1 record. The daughter of Lee and Shannon Nichols, she plans to major in business administration.

Samantha Rampart, Westosha Central High School, 5-10 Outside Hitter

Rampart is an outside hitter from Westosha Central High School earned 2nd team all-conference senior year. As co-captain senior year, Rampart helped lead team to a conference championship for 20th year in a row and a regional championship. She was part of the Division I state championship team as a sophomore and conference, regional, and sectional championship team as a junior. The daughter of Jeff and Carol Rampart, she plans to major in secondary education.

Shelby Roggensack, Madison West High School, 5-9 Setter

Roggensack rebounded for a knee injury her junior year to earn second team all-city and all-Big 8 Conference honorable mention honors. She held West to city and regional championships and the sectional runner-up. The daughter of Matt and Bekki Roggensackt, she is exploring majors.

They will play for Coach Deb Schulman, who became the 23rd coach in NCAA III history to win 500 matches in 2008. In 21 seasons, Schulman has a 501-277 record at UW-Platteville. The Pioneers made NCAA III tournament appearances in 1992, 1997, 2005 and 2007. The Pioneers have had the largest regular-season crowd in NCAA Division III in eight of the last nine years, attracting more than 1,000 fans for the annual Homecoming match. The 2005 match against Augustana drew a school-record 1,106 fans to Bo Ryan Court.
