Maybe the UW-Platteville volleyball team should look for Saturday-only tournaments.

For the third time this season, the Pioneers lost both matches on Friday, only to rebound with two wins the next day. UWP beat both Concordia and Dubuque Saturday at the Nike/Impact Sports UW-Platteville Invitational.

On Friday, Loras beat the Pioneers 25-18, 25-21, 25-21 and Ilinois Wesleyan defeated UWP 25-17, 17-25, 28-26, 25-20. The hosts beat Concordia 25-20, 26-24, 25-20 and Dubuque 25-18, 25-13, 25-19.

Loras, UW-La Crosse and Illinois Wesleyan all went 3-1, with the Pioneers finishing 2-2, Concordia 1-3, and Dubuque 0-4.

Freshman Ali Sikic made the all-tournament team after averaging 10.31 assists per set and making 18 digs and four service aces. Melissa Hillebrand recorded 45 kills over the weekend, with Lisa Bell making 37 and Rachel Chapman 30.

Bell is one kill shy of becoming the ninth person in Pioneer history to record 1,000 kills. The junior has 999 and will go for the mark Wednesday in Williams Fieldhouse. The Pioneers, now 10-7 overall, play host to Beloit Wednesday in the annual Homecoming Yell Contest at 7 p.m. For seven of the past eight years, this had been the highest-attended regular season match in all of NCAA III.
