
Kelly Laschinger became UW-Platteville's all-time leader in assists, as the Pioneers tuned up for the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball playoffs by splitting four matches at the UW-Whitewater Invitational, including two on Saturday.
Illinois Wesleyan beat the Pioneers 30-21, 18-30, 30-26, 33-31 Saturday, before the Pioneers rebounded to beat Edgewood 30-17, 30-12, 30-25.
Laschinger recorded 214 assists over the weekend, giving her 4,823 for her illustrious career. The senior from Verona broke the record of 4,683, set by Joanna Carlson in 2001-04.
UWP will take a 22-11 record into the first round of the conference playoffs Tuesday. The seventh-seeded Pioneers will once again be matched with host and second-seeded UW-Oshkosh. Last year, the Pioneers beat the Titans in five games, winning the final three.
Brooke Temperly had 10 kills to lead the Pioneers against Edgewood, while Rachel Chapman had 18 and Lisa Bell 14 against Illinois Wesleyan.
UW-Platteville split a pair of four-game matches in the first day of the eight-team UW-Whitewater Invitational Friday.
The Pioneers beat Lakeland 27-30, 30-28, 30-20, 30-28 before Simpson edged UWP 30-27, 20-30, 33-31, 30-28.
Coach Deb Schulman's club showed good balance at the net, as Rachel Chapman had 30 kills in the two matches, while Lisa Bell had 28, Emily Walker 25, Melissa Hillebrand 21 and Stephanie Tronnes 20. Kelly Laschinger set the offense up wth 122 assists, while Walker had 45 digs.
The Pioneers, now 21-9 on the year, play Illinois Wesleyan and Edgewood tomorrow, concluding the tournament and the regular season.
