Despite out-hitting UW-Eau Claire, the UW-Platteville volleyball team dropped a 3-1 match to the host Blugolds Friday night in a key Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest.
The Pioneers had their four-match winning streak stopped, as the Blugolds prevailed 25-30, 30-26, 34-32, 30-28. UWEC improved to 17-7 overall and 5-2 in the WIAC, while the Pioneers fell to 20-8, 3-4.
Coach Deb Schulman's club hit .226 to the Blugolds' .186, but the home team pulled out the extremely close match. Rachel Chapman and Lisa Bell led the Pioneers with 17 and 15 kills, respectively, while Stephanie Tronnes and Melissa Hillebrand each had 10. Kelly Laschinger had 50 assists, and Rochelle Ripp 19 digs.
The Pioneers will look for a split in their northern trip at UW-Superior Saturday afternoon.
