UW-Platteville finished even at the Elmhurst Invitational Saturday, falling 30-20, 30-24, 30-25 to UW-Oshkosh and beating Lakeland 30-20, 30-25, 30-26.
The Pioneers split four matches, all by 3-0 scores, and scored 316 points to their opponents 320.
Rachel Chapman earned one of the six all-tournament spots, leading the Pioneers with 43 kills in four matches and making 35 digs.
Lisa Bell had 11 kills vs. Lakeland, while Melissa Hillebrand had 10. Katie Deegan's four aces highlighted the Oshkosh match.
The Pioneers play at Loras Wednesday, then make their home debut Friday at 4 p.m. in the first round of the UW-Platteville Invitational.
UW-Platteville successfully opened the 2007 volleyball season with a 3-0 win over Illinois Wesleyan before falling by a similar score to Nebraska Wesleyan at the Elmhurst Invitational Friday.
UWP beat the Titans 30-20, 30-24, 30-25 in the afternoon by utilizing all four classes. Junior Rachel Chapman had 16 kills, freshman Chelsey Walker 12 and sophomore Lisa Bell 11, all set by senior Kelly Laschinger's 37 assists. Chapman added 10 digs, while Bell had four blocks.
The Pioneers then faced a hot-serving Nebraska Wesleyan team, which rode 13 aces to a 30-26, 30-11, 30-19 win. Chapman's 10 kills paces the Pioneers.
