
Host UW-Platteville took second place in two men's events in the first day of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference track and field championships.
Tyler Sigl was second in the 5,000-meter run in 15:03 and the distance medley relay team of Josh Placke, Andres Young, Erik Bartelson and Kyle Stangel was runner-up in 10:16.58.
Those two finishes, as well as two more top five marks, propelled the Pioneers to third place in the team standings. UW-La Crosse leads the meet with 72.5 points after seven events, while UW-Whitewater is second with 30, and the Pioneers have 27.
Tim Jankowski was third in the pole vault at 15-5, while Nick Fix placed fifth in the long jump at 22-1.

Also Friday, Ryan Kleimenhagen set a school and Williams Fieldhouse record in the 800 preliminaries with a time of 1:50.60.
On the women's side, the distance medley relay team of Anissa Szesterniak, Maggie Laufenberg, Lindsey Vick, and Jessica Davis placed third in 12:38.03. Carrie Morschauser was fourth in the high jump at 5-3.75, and fourth in long jump at 17-2.25.
UW-Oshkosh leads the women's standings after five events with 42.5 points. The Pioneers, missing an ailing Jackie Mulrooney in the 5,000, are fifth with 14.5 points. Tracey Wilber (7.38) and Mary Johnson (7.42) were first and third in the 55 dash preliminaries. They both qualified for the 200 finals as well.
