Several UW-Platteville track and field athletes reached NCAA III provisional qualifying marks at North Central's Last Chance Meet.
Both Kyle Stangel and Cameron Klein were well below the 3:56 needed to reach the list in the 1,500-meter run. Stangel hit 3:52.94, while Klein was at 3:53.81 as both reached seasonal bests. They join teammate Tyler Sigl as provisional qualifers in that event. (Automatic qualifers are already in the NCAA III national championships, and if not enough people reach the automatic mark, the highest provisional qualifiers make the national championships.)
Sigl provosionally qualified in another event at North Central, finishing the 5,000-meter run in 14:46.48.
Russ Goessl hit a provo mark in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:21, while Nick Fix hit 47-6.75 in the triple jump.
The Pioneers will compete at North Central and UW-Oshkosh this weekend for the opportunity to hit automatic marks, improve their provo marks or reach them for the first time.
Coach Jim Nickasch's teams have plenty of athletes already qualified or close to the marks. Check out the team statistics page on the homesite for the complete list of season bests, compiled by Andres Young.
