Pioneers win eight events at UW-Whitewater

UW-Platteville's men's and women's track and field teams won eight events at the Hawk Invitational Friday night at UW-Whitewater.

The men were second of three teams. The host Warhawks won the meet with 154 points, while UWP had 119, and Loras 57. Loras edged UW-Whitewater for the women's title, 126-125, while the Pioneers recorded 86.

Five UWP females won their events. Mary Johnson took the 200 in 26.96; Stephanie Martin the 800 in 2:23.50; Anissa Szesterniak the mile in 5:37.63; Jessica Davis in the 3,000 in 10:53.74; and Carrie Morschauser in the high jump at 5-1 3/4.

The men were led by Kyle Stangel's victory in the mile run in 4:27.61 and Nick Fix's win in the triple jump at 45-8. The 4x200 relay team also posted a victory in 1:46.43, with the individuals having to push themselves after Loras and UWW were disqualified.

Ryan Kleimenhagen, Jackie Mulrooney and Marcia Taddy will compete in the UW Elite Meet Saturday in Madison.

Williams Fieldhouse is the site of next Saturday's competition, the Pioneer Open.
