Tyler Sigl and Jackie Mulrooney turned in stellar performances in the 10,000-meter runs at the prestigious Drake Relays Thursday night in Des Moines, Iowa.
Sigl was fourth of 39 runners in a time of 30:18.88, just nine seconds shy of the time former Pioneer Corey Stelljes won the national championship in 2003. Sigl automatically qualified for the NCAA III national championships with his race.
Mulrooney was fifth of 17 female runners in a time of 36:12.06, only two seconds behind all-America Keri Wells's 1999 school record. University of Michigan's Ana Gjesdahl won Thursday's race in 34:50.42. Mulrooney's mark was a national provisional qualifying time.
In the relay races, the distance medley relay team of Anissa Szeterniak, Mary Johnson, Steph Martina nd Marcia Taddy placed seventh out of 15 teams, while the men's 4x800 squad was 13th and the distance medley relay team 14th.
