Kleimenhagen qualifies for USA championships

UW-Platteville's Ryan Kleimenhagen will compete in the 2005 USA Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend in Boston.

The 11-time NCAA III all-American will run the 1,500-meter run Saturday at 4:31 p.m. in the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center.

The USA Indoor Track & Field Championship meet is the world's oldest indoor track championship, with the first meet held in 1888.

Kleimenhagen is ranked eighth among all competitors in the event. He currently holds the fastest time in NCAA III in the mile run at 4:05.18. That is nearly eight seconds better than his nearest competitor. Kleimenhagen has the best time in the 800-meter run as well, at 1:52.38.

The senior from Oak Creek is a three-time cross country and eight time track NCAA III all-American. He won two national titles at last year's indoor track and field championships. Kleimenhagen currently holds eight school and four Williams Fieldhouse records.

He will run at his final home meet March 4-5, when the Pioneers will be the hosts of the 2005 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships.

Kleimenhagen is the first Pioneer to compete at the USTF championships since Paul Conlin threw the shot put at the 1993 outdoor meet.
